Writing Coaching Agreement
Story Spring | Dr. Rehema Clarken
This agreement is designed to create clarity, trust, and mutual respect as we work together on your writing.
By booking a session, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms.
1. Purpose of Writing Coaching
Writing coaching is a collaborative, creative partnership that supports the development of your writing life and projects.
Coaching may include:
- Brainstorming story details and developing new project ideas
- Troubleshooting writing challenges
- Encouraging and sustaining creativity
- Finding efficiencies during labor-intensive stages of writing
- Building confidence and community around your work
Sessions may involve:
- Listening to and discussing project ideas
- Reading and offering developmental reflections on drafts
- Exploring writing structure and organization
- Working through writer’s block
- Offering big-picture audience feedback
- Discussing writing tools, apps, programs, and systems
- Providing guidance as you move from private writer to published author, including conversations about platform, marketing, publicity, and publishing pathways
Each session is tailored to your goals and current stage of writing.
2. What Writing Coaching Is Not
To maintain clarity of roles:
- I am not a ghostwriter. If you are seeking someone to write on your behalf, I am happy to help you find an appropriate professional.
- I do not act as a literary agent and do not represent writers to publishing houses.
- I do not act as a publisher, though I can provide guidance on both traditional and self-publishing pathways.
- I am not a therapist. While writing can be deeply personal, coaching sessions focus on the craft and process of writing.
3. How Coaching Works
- Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
- Sessions are typically scheduled on a semi-regular basis (weekly or monthly), depending on your goals.
- Meetings take place via Zoom so we can see one another and review documents together.
- Phone sessions may be arranged when necessary, though they are not ideal for discussing written materials.
4. Payment & Scheduling
- All sessions must be paid in full prior to booking.
- Please provide written notice at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule.
- Sessions canceled with 24-hour notice may be rebooked without penalty. Sessions canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled time will be charged the full session fee.
- Coaching packages expire one year from the date of purchase. This policy encourages steady progress and helps writers move through roadblocks and creative blocks in a timely way.
5. Confidentiality & Intellectual Property
- All materials shared and discussions held during coaching sessions will remain confidential.
- You retain full rights to your writing at all times.
- Any course materials or handouts provided through Story Spring are for participant use only and remain the copyrighted intellectual property of Story Spring.
6. Scope of Responsibility
As your writing coach, I serve as:
- A guide A strategist
- A thoughtful reader
- A creative sounding board
Your progress depends on your own effort, follow-through, and creative engagement. Coaching is a collaborative process, and meaningful results come from consistent participation and practice.
7. Agreement to Terms
By booking and participating in writing coaching sessions, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms.
I look forward to supporting your writing journey.
