Celebrating Community Members' Writing

I started the weekly newsletter to talk about writing—to share my own words and other writers' too. I want this weekly email to be a Story Spring: a replenishing drink of creative water. To this end, I would like to highlight fellow writers in this community who have recently published a book or article.

If you would like to participate and become a featured writer, help me help you. This is an opportunity for you to share your book with readers who care about writing. I will start with books released in the last year, but I will include older books as the occasion arises.

If you would like to participate, please collect and send me the following. When in doubt, write short and succinct. Write this in THIRD PERSON like you are writing an article about someone else!

First, who are you? Introduce yourself. People like a quirky detail. (50-100 words)

Second, explain why you wrote your book and how the book came together. The audience for this newsletter is fellow writers, so feel free to share a bit about the ups and downs of your creative process and the craft of writing. (100-200 words)

Third, tell us about the book. This is a succinct book blurb that highlights the genre and themes. It should not be exactly what is on your book jacket or what is on your sales page, though it may be similar. This is a chance for you to frame your book for fellow writers. (100 words)

Fourth, include links to your website and social media accounts. Make it easy for interested readers to find you and your work.

Fifth, send a high-quality image of the book cover. You may also include an image of you, the author. Please edit these so they are exactly as you want them. Send jpg or png files.

Sixth, email all of the above to rehema @ storyspringwriting . com. Please use the subject line: Feature My Book. Complete submissions will be published sooner.

Finally, add a personal note. I am always interested to know a little about you too. How did you find my newsletter? How long you have been a reader? and What do you like about the Story Spring community?

Example of a Featured Book

Author

Rehema Marie is a writer and teacher who likes hiking to waterfalls in the summer and snowshoeing through the woods in the winter. She works part-time as an instructor at Michigan Technological University and owns and runs Story Spring.

In June of 2024, she published her first young adult fantasy novel, Pyrrha's Journey (pronounced PEER-ah). It is a meditation on how to navigate free will and fate in our lives. This story took seven years to write! Rehema was living in Beijing, China during part of that time, so it was difficult to meet with fellow English-speaking writers, find critique partners and beta readers. When she returned to live in the US, she immersed herself in writing workshops and courses to help her finish her novel, learn about publishing, and join a writing community.

Book

Pyrrha's Journey is the story of a fifteen-year-old girl who goes on a journey to slay a dragon. She must confront her past to grow up and become an adult. Along the way, she faces several Herculean challenges while learning about trusting others as well as believing in herself.
